I want each and every student in my classes to fully understand traffic control
devices, and how to properly install and maintain them. My students don't
get bored and daydream. The course is fast-paced, and jam-packed with
every aspect of traffic control, from equipment to methodologies. - Patrick Joyce
The Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control
The required devices and procedures are presented clearly and completely through the use of an original PowerPoint slide presentation of over 400 slides with a multitude of photos and illustrations. Video segments produced by FDOT and ATSSA* provide another means to reinforce real learning. Each student will receive a 19-page text that follows the slide presentation, and a 100-page, 11"x17" copy of the 2006 Florida Design Standards that apply to temporary traffic control, including the Interim Design Standards, and the Design Standards Modifications. A passing score of 70 percent on the multiple-choice/true-false examination will insure that the student has retained a thorough understanding of the important concepts presented in the training course. There are 45 questions on the exam. Each student who successfully passes the course is issued a wallet-size certification card, and a completion certificate is mailed to the individual or sponsoring company. (NOTE: Any participant who does not pass the written examination may receive a Flagger certificate for having completed the first 4 hours of the Intermediate course.) Target AudienceThe target audience consists of workers involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of infrastructure (such as water, sewer, electric, gas, telecommunications and other utility service conveyances) that are installed in the public rights-of-way in the State of Florida. ObjectivesAt the end of this course, the student will have gained a familiarity with the scope and extent of requirements for temporary traffic control in Florida. He or she will have the printed materials necessary to research and determine the specific details of those requirements, a strong ability to understand the language and interpret a temporary traffic control plan, and an ability to make the practical application of the principles contained therein to effectively setup and maintain a safe system of traffic control. He or she will have a thorough understanding of the equipment and methods required in the state of Florida for flagging operations, and will be approved to train other workers to effectively perform the duties of a Flagger.
